About Mike Middleton

Mike Middleton is a painter and printmaker. For many years he worked at Colchester School of Art and Design teaching printmaking. Before this he worked at two other colleges, one in Essex and one in the North.

He trained at Farnham Art School, Sheffield Polytechnic and Chelsea School of Art. He also studied Art History at Birbeck College during the time he was teaching in Colchester.

Elected to the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers in 1981 he has had an active career in printmaking.  Six of his prints are in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.  Since retiring from teaching he has devoted more time to painting and in 2013 he was elected to the Royal Watercolour Society. As a member of both these societies his work can often be seen at the Bankside Gallery in London.

He has shown work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the New English Art Club and the Sunday Times Watercolour Competiton.

The painting in the auction is from a series of watercolours which show beach huts in West Mersea. An exercise in pure watercolour, it shows the luminosity of colour characteristic of this medium.
