It is on a vintage chart of the Thames Estuary. It is a Stanford Printed chart, dated 1907; the age of this chart makes it quite special. It’s hand stitched with a Thames Sailing Barge, right for the age of the chart and appropriate to the geography too as the Thames Estuary is their primary sailing area.
Framed with a simple oak molding to suit a contemporary or traditional home decor. Framed by Nick Holyman
NaviStitch is created by Sam Luxford by hand-stitching nautical designs on out of date or vintage navigation charts. Sam works from her studio in Ardleigh where she holds an extensive collection of Navigation charts.
Sam is inspired by the East coast having spent most of her life on the Stour Estuary and her stitched designs are all coastal inspired. Sam considers the stitch design, age of the chart, chart colours, contours of the land, thread colours and framing style to create a cohesive finished piece. Sam recently won the Colbea ‘In the Market for Success’ competition which resulted with a 2 month pop up shop in Fenwick Colchester. Sam’s prints and Greetings cards are stocked both locally and Internationally and you will often find the NaviStitch stand at local regatta’s and maritime events for unique original art.
